Works great! February 21, 2010 Kapa L (Chicago, IL) Thanks to advice from another reviewer, I got this to work the first time around. Be sure to twist the ends in the opposite direction (left side anti-clockwise, right side clockwise), hold it very close to your skin (touching your face) and twist. It's quite painful at first but it will most likely get better with continued use. I find this method such an improvement over using smelly lotions that typically cause painful bumps that take forever to go away! I definitely recommend giving this a try.
Handy little number February 20, 2010 J. Bradbury (Seattle, WA USA) I was encouraged by the commentators that left specific instructions. I found that if I bent the spring into a gentle shape and rolled both ends toward me, moving the spring up my cheek, it works perfectly. This is the same as the right hand clockwise, left hand counterclockwise approach, just worded differently.
I have preferred threading to waxing for its gentle, non-chemical approach. Among my friends I do seem to have a higher tolerance for pain, or maybe it's just an acceptance of the inevitable. I can take this spring with me anywhere and will never need an appointment again. This will save me money right away.
Good luck!

This product is amazing. I've been removing hair on my upper lip for years. I've used Nad's, Nair, and Sally's Hansen's wax strips, and I'm happy to say I'll never buy any of them ever again. Nad's caused acne, Nair is just awful, and Sally Hansen's worked ok but it's gooey, painful enough that I had to 'brace myself' to pull the strips off and I ended up cutting up the larger pieces for my upper lip.
The spring came in a padded envelope, the package squashed flat but the product undamaged. After a little maneuvering I figured out that holding it in a gentle U shape- not too close to a V!!!- with my thumbs facing each other, the U shape close to touching my face, almost straight up and down! and rolling it briskly back and forth, while making a 'shoe shine' motion up and down at the same time (NOT as hard as it sounds) worked perfectly to pull out every last little fine hair that often escapes my imperfect attempt at waxing...
It didn't hurt very much, less so I thought than waxing, but I've been tormenting my upper lip for years, so I thought I'd try it on a place that I'd never shorn, along my chin and it was a little more painful but not much.
The hair re-growth is absolutely normal with what I experienced waxing, I've had it about a month and used it once thoroughly and did a little retouch two weeks later. I experienced a little break out on my chin where I hadn't ever removed hairs, but my upper tougher lip was better overall for the wear!
I recommend this! You've got to fiddle with it to get it working right, if it pinches or doesn't pull out hair, try a different angle and roll!! It *will* work, and work great.
REM Spring Facial Hair Remover February 10, 2010 The Niblet (Twin Cities, MN USA) I was excited to get this product and tried it out right away. Yes, it was very painful on my upper lip as I have not plucked that area, although I have shaved it for many years. It was much less painful on my chin as I have plucked that area for many years and it was not an issue.
I did not like that I was not able to control it enough to reach certain hairs so I ended up plucking as well. I've since moved to an epilator because it is less painful and faster on my upper lip (no doubt due to the use of this product!). I hope to use it again in the future for touch ups once I build up my pain tolerance. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get to clear, hairless skin with this product, I had a lot of stray hairs that were not removed.
I've seen a more advanced threading gadget that is available for $150 but I'm not ready to step up to the type of price. Hopefully this product will continue to be enhanced to make it more controllable, i.e. able to hone in on specific hairs to be removed.
Give it time and you will LOVE it!! February 6, 2010 A. Hudson (GSO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received this a few days ago and was looking forward to using it. As a fair skinned brunette I get some dark hair on my upper lip and also a few dark hairs on the upper side of my neck. Not only being fair skinned but also having sensitive skin it is hard to find a product that works at `removing' the hair. I have tried everything from plucking to cream kits. The last thing I used that worked was a cream kit but for two days after my upper lip was so swollen and red from the chemicals I could barely talk. I would have to sleep with Neosporin on my upper lip after using the cream since it was so harsh. I read the reviews for this `spring' and figured I would give it a try.
Upon receiving it I was doubtful. It comes in a box with poorly explained instructions. It does come with a nice soft case to keep the spring in which was a plus. I read the instructions and it stated to hold the spring in an upside down `U' shape and push in and outward. I took the spring to a mirror and for 30 minutes nothing happened. I was ready to chalk this up to another failed device. I then watched the video for the device and it more or less is trying to sell it to you and not show you how to use it. I then went to the most popular video website and typed in the item and found one where a woman demonstrated using it. Right away I realized that when you hold it upside down you need to twist the ends left and right continuously in order for it to work. It did not state this in the instructions. Back to the mirror I went and sure enough with me twisting the ends constantly I felt it `grab' the hairs and slowly removing them. I will not say it was painless but then again your upper lip area is a very sensitive area. I was able to remove all the hairs and I did not have any redness after. It hurt during the process but no more pain afterwards. I also used it on the side of my upper neck and it removed those hairs as well. I did put some oil free moisturizer on my upper lip after to prevent any dryness.
When I was done I tapped the device hard to remove any loose hair and put it in the soft case it came with. Please note you cannot clean the device with water since it will rust. It recommends being cleaned with high pressured air. I will keep cleaning it the way I have been and hope it stays clean. Also remember to not share this with anyone, not even a family member. Not being able to disinfect it completely you don't want to risk the possible infection to another person.
I must say when I first tried this I thought it was a waste and pure junk but now that I know how to use it I am so thankful for it. My upper lip is very soft and does not have the burn and irritation that I am used to. For the price and knowing you will be using it more than once it is a great investment. I would highly recommend this product. Give it some time to get used to learning how to use it and you will love it to!
