I bought this for my teenage daughter so she could have hot soup for lunch. She loves it. I read a review about making steel cut oats in it. I tried it and it works great. Its done by morning..but not real hot. I just empty in a bowl and zap it in the microwave for a few seconds and I have my breakfast. Beats waiting a half an hour for cooking on the stove. Saves energy also +++++ The spoon is all metal..doesn't look like the one shown. When Amazon has it available again I need to buy a couple more.

I needed a thermos to keep soup hot for at least six hours without leaking. This works exactly as advertised. Soup is steaming hot, and never a leak after six months of daily use. You can't go wrong here.

my daughter begged us for a thermos to take to school...for hot soup/pasta for lunch...
she said her food stays hot; no leaks and loves the convenience of the foldup spoon and the wide mouth opening; as well as the ability to pour the contents of the thermos into the "top"...
thus, the 5 star review...because who else is a tougher critic than your child!

My kids hate the school lunches, but were getting tired of cold lunches. So far I have sent home made potato soup, chili, mac-n-cheese, and tomato soup. The thicker potato soup and chili held the heat better, but the kids all agreed that even the mac n cheese and thin tomato soup were still warm when lunch time came. The other cheaper versions, and even an expensive child thermos did horribly. We have tried several kinds in the past, this one is a winner. I either just set them under the tap hottest water for about one minute, or run plain water thru the coffee machine and heat them up that way, both methods seem to get the thermos hot enough as the kids always say the food is hot at lunch time. They also love the folding spoon that snaps on the lid. The only complaint I have gotten from the kids is that when I put a cold pack in the lunch box with the thermos the food isn't as hot. So I don't send anything that needs to be kept cold when I send hot lunches.

This is the first time I write a review on Amazon, only because I am really too satisfied with this product. I just cooked a bottle of soup and I didn't put the original cover on it but instead used foil. I thought foil will not keep the temperature and put the jar in the fridge hoping it would cool down. One hour later when I took the jar out...guess what? its still damn hot! I really haven't used many times since it arrived but now I am absolutely in love with this food Jar. It is also at the right size for a girl's lunch and the right size to hold on hand and right design! I also love the little spoon that nests in, it makes lunch so much more convenient for me!
