What's this? New Coldplay material so soon after the release of Viva La Vida? In fact, Prospekt's March is a collection of songs that were chiefly intended for the band's fourth album that weren't finished before the deadline. There are eight tracks in total (some new, some new-ish), and a couple of re-workings of older material. Amongst the re-imaginings is a largely decorative Osaka Sun mix of "Lovers in Japan," and a version of "Lost" that includes an unlikely guest vocalist in the shape of Jay-Z. It seems to work. Of the new material, the piano interlude "Postcards from Far Away" is the shortest and most coruscating work, while "Life in Technicolor (II)" is larger (but slightly less successful), adding only cursory elements to its predecessor on Viva La Vida. More alluring are the gigantic "Glass of Water," the experimental "Rainy Day," and the beautifully melancholy "Prospekt's March/Poppy Fields." Overall, the album is a mixed bag of sorts, but one that's generally more enjoyable than not.--Danny McKenna

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF COLDPLAYS BEST CDS   January 4, 2009

A great collection to add to your Coldplay collection. There is a lot of heart and emotion that was put into each song which you can feel every time you listen to it.

5 out of 5 stars Their best effort to date   December 22, 2008

It's Cd of the year for a reason...it's darn catchy and well done. U2 called by the way, they want their record back! Hahahahaaa!!! OK, kidding. Disc 2 is worth a listen, but the meat and potatoes is on disc #1. The downfall is the rapping over "Lost" on CD #2 as others have mentioned.....sorry! No good! They ruined this track. Don't try to be all things to all people. Coldplay is not ghetto. It's the only track you must skip over completely because its a great song that was destroyed by urbanizing it. Other than that, please do buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Pretty good   December 17, 2008
i have long been a coldplay fan. So you could say i'm biased. Recently, i have stopped listening to them so much; finding myself more in the indie scene. I usually buy coldplay's albums simply because i just want ALL their music. I want everything they've ever produced. So this album was no different. Or so i thought.

The EP disc of this album is simply amazing. Listen to the entirety of Viva La Vida first. Get to know those songs, then listen to Prospekt's March. It is simply amazing and i love the tweaks they made.

awesome deal.

3 out of 5 stars Jay-Z. . .really?   December 2, 2008

A worthy extension of Viva for Coldplay fans. A bright spot for me was to hear vocals overlayed to the "Life in Technicolor" track (part ii). . .but did we really need to hear Jay-Z rapping over (my favorite track) Lost!? The other material here is not earth shattering, but enjoyable. 4 stars moves to 3 for the Rush like mistake (roll the bones) of adding a train wreck into the middle of a great track. It's like listening to Bach and hearing Angus Young's guitar crunch jammed into the middle of the symphony.

5 out of 5 stars Nice edition!   November 26, 2008

For those who love Coldplay's latest offering, this is a great way to round your Viva experience out with the new EP, especially if you got the original album electronically. While it's not the most red-carpet edition imaginable, it is stylish and quite affordable. For those wondering whether to buy the EP, do so - it's a nearly seamless addition to the inspiration of Viva, with the sole exception of a couple dozen seconds of silly rapping overlaying "Lost+", unnecessary since it's the same version of the song on the album. Listen to it once.
