Product Description He placed a notice in a Chicago paper, an advertisement for "a reliable wife." She responded, saying that she was "a simple, honest woman." She was, of course, anything but honest, and the only simple thing about her was her single-minded determination to marry this man and then kill him, slowly and carefully, leaving her a wealthy widow, able to take care of the one she truly loved.
What Catherine Land did not realize was that the enigmatic and lonely Ralph Truitt had a plan of his own. And what neither anticipated was that they would fall so completely in love.
Filled with unforgettable characters, and shimmering with color and atmosphere, A Reliable Wife is an enthralling tale of love and madness, of longing and murder.

smutty garbage March 11, 2010 Librarian (NY, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is nothing more than porn veiled under a light cover of a boring story. Every chapter has one or two scenarios of detailed sex. I would give it less than one star if it was an option
My First One Star Book March 10, 2010 lamato (California) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the very first time I have ever considered a book one star. It has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Before I purchased it I noticed that half the reviews were terrible and half were outstanding. I wish I would have paid more attention to the terrible reviews and not wasted my time. I had the book figured out by about 25% (I read it on my Kindle). I can't believe how many good reviews this book got and I am sorry I got suckered in. I can usually find something good...wheather it's learning about something new, or being entertained, but with this book there was nothing. Do not waste your time. The book is annoying and boring.
Gothic Romance.... March 10, 2010 C. Yearwood 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I adore Gothic romance and bought this book immediately. The writing style brilliantly captures the frozen landscape, characters, and the intersection between interior and exterior realities. However, this is a classic often-used plot found in numerous other books (including the movie Original Sin with Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas). The story eventually falls flat with overly-intense single-minded characters and irrational actions/obsessions that ask the reader to suspend belief a little too much.
Save your money on this one! March 10, 2010 N. J. O'Neill (Rohnert Park, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was so amazed to see all the people who raved about this book and couldn't put it down! I'm on board with all the people who gave it one star and said it was the worst book ever! It's amazing how different people can be. I was lured in with the glowing endorsements on the book. I could hardly wait to curl up with a juicy thriller that you couldn't turn the pages fast enough and couldn't put the book down. Trust me, I had absolutely NO problem putting the book down and it took me a whole week to read it. For some reason I felt compelled to finish. If you want to be depressed, by all means read this book. If you feel like slitting your wrists, read this book. I hated the story, I hated the characters and actually felt like I'd been lied to and cheated. I always pass my books on to friends - this one will go to Salvation Army where hopefully it will be picked up by one of the many fans.
A classic page turner March 10, 2010 Sandra J. Calhoune 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
"A Reliable Wife" was one of the most enjoyable books I have read this year. From the very first few pages I was sucked into the lives of Truitt and Catherine, as well as the Landfords and Antonio. Golrick has written a classic tale that brings to mind books such as Rebecca and Ethan Frome. There is a lyrical, haunting quality to this book that is really mesmerizing. For me the sign of a good book is when the author allows me to picture the characters in vivid detail, almost like a movie reel in my head. I read this book in 2 days due to the fact that I couldn't put it down. It is a masterpiece!
