A PAGE TURNER September 2, 2010 JULIANNABLING This has it all . Romance, intrigue, twist after twist, historical interest, fascinating characters. Ending was just OK. I was a little incredulous at how far he let her take over his life and health. But still worth reading.
Longest Winter Ever September 1, 2010 E. Gootee (New Orleans, LA) I know Wisconsin winters are long, but........she arrived in the freezing winter, met her husband, married him, had an affair with her lover, poisoned her husband, nursed him back to health, got pregnant, planted a garden. Meanwhile Truitt saw his fortunes rise and fall, dealt with his worthless son, on and on. I had to finish the book, only because I always finish books that I start, but his descriptions of each of their feelings went on ad infinitum, ad nauseum until the very pat and predictable ending. I wish all of them had fallen in the ice.
Exciting plot- a lot of surprises! August 30, 2010 Jani Rubinstein (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While I agree with other reviews that the author tends to overexplain certain things, I still couldn't put this book down. The story had unexpected twists and turns and I loved how the characters evolved. A lesson in although your past effects who you are today but does not have to haunt you. A great read!
Unsympathetic characters- all of them! August 27, 2010 Carol in Chicago 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am still trying to figure out why I even finished this book. I suppose the fact that I didn't chuck it out the window before I got to the end is why I gave it two stars instead of one. As another review put it so well, the writing was very pretentious. While the premise of the story was promising, the way that it was written just ruined it for me and what bothered me the most was the fact that of the 3 main characters, I could not find any sympathy or anything in common with any of them. Each character was more screwed up and hateful than the next and I found myself completely not caring what happened to them; they were all so unlikelable. I prefer a story where I am rooting for the hero, or at least where I am able to find a main party in the book LIKEABLE. I would definitely not recommend this book, and only picked it up because my aunt recommended it. I'll have to ask her why when I see her.
Dark and twisty. August 23, 2010 Gerard Garcia (Irvine, CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The book was very dark, twisty and disturbing, but I was completely unable to put it down.
